Davis, the liberal daughter of Ronald Reagan, was romantically involved with Bernie Leadon from 1974 to 1975. As Davis tells it, she was playing around with the song in their home one day (they lived together) and Bernie heard it. He helped her finish it and then insisted it be on the Eagles album One of These Nights, overriding the objections of Henley and Frey who at that point wanted to avoid using outside songwriters as much as possible. Henley especially was displeased with the idea that conservative politician Reagan's daughter would be on this album, despite the fact that she herself was as liberal as Henley, but Bernie won the day.
