    Default Favourite Albums

The ABC (the national broadcaster) ran a poll on favourite albums. Here are the results. HC made it at #48. You won't have heard of some of these because they're Australian (Cold Chisel, but no Midnight Oil).

This is a peculiar list. Two Tool albums and Hot August Night (It was huge down here). ABBA and Miles Davis. Cat Stevens and the Cure. This is the sort of eclecticism you get when the public vote (although ABC viewers are the sort of people who watch the BBC and PBS). And at least Goodbye Yellow Brick Road & Brothers In Arms made it. Does anyone want to comment on this or 'great albums' lists in general?

What, no Midnight Oil? Surprising! At least Fleetwood Mac got #20.

These lists always seem flawed. I guess that's inevitable when everyone has different standards of what is "best."

I find these lists interesting - what a wide range in there. Some I've never heard of - Tool for instance. Three Silverchair albums? There are some absolute classics there that should be much higher - HC, Born to Run, Brothers In Arms, Who's Next. No Sting/Police as far as I can see, nor the best-selling album of all time wordwide, Thriller. Muse, now that's an interesting one - local lad Matt Bellamy from Exmouth, undoubted talent. My husband and son really like this album, but I'm afraid I find it depressing.

I've taken a while to reply to this post as I was trying to track down a Top 100 list from Radio Devon listeners (probably mostly people of my age group or higher), which actually represented a selection quite close to my own choice, but it seems to have been taken down from the site.
