Thanks for that link, ss. It's always fun to hear that again!

I have always assumed that John Lennon (the 'walrus' as in the Beatles song I Am The Walrus) & Yoko Ono attended this controversial show.

As for Mr Hughes I have only ever thought it was Howard Hughes. He was a recluse so if he did attend a rock concert it makes sense that he would be 'wearing his disguise'. But news flash - according to Wikipedia it's George Harrison!

The most telling line in the song is 'if memories were all I sang I'd rather drive a truck'. Artists need to move on & create. However the Eagles seem to have adopted the chorus lines; 'you can't please everyone/so you got to please yourself'.

Here's Poco singing "Just For Me and You" in 1972 for The Old Grey Whistle Test.

Thanks, UTW, love it! Little baby Timmy with his bad posture. He must have figured out at some point that his body would eventually break down under the weight of his bass. Now he shows that bass who's boss, haha. The sound quality is really good. And they definitely don't appear to be lip syncing (I don't know the format of this show.) Thanks again!

Wikipedia's take on the Old Grey Whistle Show.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Old_Grey_Whistle_Test

    From the 'history' section:
"Many viewers assumed the bands were always playing live. However, owing to technical issues during the show's early years, and the need to ensure performances were controlled, the bands often recorded the instrumental tracks the day before. The vocals were then performed live, "99 percent" of the time. However, after 1973, the show changed to an entirely-live paradigm."

I was surprised to read that Bob Harris introduced the show for only six years as he is the person I always associate with the show. (Though I do have to admit that due to work and then other life commitments I didn't see the show every week.)

The opening credits to the show.

Incidentally, has it been posted elsewhere that JD Souther appears at 14.20 singing Doolin Dalton?

Yep, that looks about right for a 70s tv show intro!

Wow, JD sounds great, what a voice. Very cool. Thanks UKTF

That was great, thanks for posting! I love the Poco clip, and I love young Timothy, bad posture and all LOL!

I also watched JD.. I love his voice, but he looks like he hasn't bathed or slept for about a week. The best part was when the pianist whipped out his bass and started playing! Dont think I've ever seen that move before!

ETA: dang! Bonnie Raitt can sing! (I love the blues) and James Taylor and Carly Simon sound amazing together.
