Great info, TM2. I was at the concert in January 1992 in San Diego, CA. The band was energetic, appeared to be getting along well, and the crowd went nuts. I remember Axl jumping around shirtless on stage, wearing bike shorts and combat boots, and of course, Slash wore his trademark top hat. The music was loud as hell, I couldn't hear and talk much the next day, but it was damn worth it!

Anyway, here's the set list from that night:

    That's awesome.

When slash left in 1996 it was a power play because after Izzy left slash wanted to take over songwriting and the album "It's Five O Clock Somewhere" from Slash's snake pit was originally going to be Chinese Democracy but Axl and Duff both rejected so slash left and tried to get Axl to give in to his demands.
From a webchat on mygnr(This is the only trustworthy source because it is Axl himself and everyone else on the site are liars and trolls I recommend GNRTRUTH for trustworthy and friendly people as long you are not a troll

    Axl Webchat
For not contesting the rights to the brand name, were more than Slash could openly face. Also we aren’t lawyers or formally business educated so it was just a matter of all of us being naïve and doing what we thought was right at the time. Slash was imo being on the up and up in agreeing I had the rights and I wasn’t trying to be some snake in the grass pulling a fast one. The others could’ve cared less.

But when the reality of the breakup hit and the strategy to have me crawl back was put into play Slash had to save face and get business team and public support. Painting me as the one who held a crowd hostage forcing the others to sign over the name worked out pretty well in that regard. I’m the bad guy and Duff, the fans and most importantly himself were the victims. Oh and they had actually made the sacrifice for the crowd, the people, the fans at the show. But again…. IT NEVER HAPPENED.

Media and others ignorantly, wrongly and falsely harped on about it at mine and the fans expense for years and Slash has hoped to use all that to continually sue and have some sort of legal nonsense going on behind the scenes in an effort to reverse things. He wouldn’t have been able to get the support and action on the part of his various team members over the years to do so if the truth were out there especially when the statute of limitations had run out years ago.

Why keep the name? I’m literally the last man standing. Not bragging, not proud. It’s been a fucking nightmare but I didn’t leave Guns and I didn’t drive others out. With Slash it’s been nothing more than pure strategy and saving face while manipulating the public like he used to me. I earned the right to protect my efforts and to be able to take advantage of our contract I’d worked hard for where Slash’s exact words were that he didn’t care. I get that some like a different version or lineup the same way some like a specific team line up or a particular year of a specific car but because you and I are getting played I’m supposed to throw the baby out with the bath water?

I posted this on a Henley thread quite a while ago, but I think it would interest GnR fans more.

I've been listening to GnR's former manager describe how he renegotiated their contract with Geffen records in 1991. They were only about half-way through their current contract but he thought he could get a better deal. One tactic was to start planning a tour which would delay completion of the next album (sound familiar?) and that got him the meeting with Geffen where Geffen asked what he wanted in the contract.

"I want the best contract you've ever given to an artist."
"You can't have it. You will never have it."
    "Why not?"
"Because Henley already has it and will always have it. He has a favored nation clause."

Some of the rest is interesting for the portrait it paints of a fractured band and the issues with managing them. It's a bit slow, though. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O53JJiLcIKw"]Youtube Link[/ame]

This next year should be interesting!

I saw them open for the Rolling Stones at the Coliseum in 1989 and I saw them at the Forum in 1991 with Skid Row opening for them (Sebastian Bach!)

I'm SO looking forward to this.

I'm waiting for the arena tour though. My health doesn't allow for outdoor venues, least of all a stadium.
