I have a confession--I don't like the Beatles! There, I said it. I'm truly ashamed and have seriously tried but I don't get it. To me that music is the most boring ordinary stuff I have ever heard. JMHO! My husband and I have had some pretty serious discussions regarding this (the only thing that has saved our marriage is the fact we both do agree on Zep ) and my son has threatened to disown me because of it.

Believe me there is more to Zep then Stairway. If you like some old blues, just pull out Zeppelin I. And Presence ---OMG--unbelievable stuff. You said you have Mothership---I can't even describe to you what it does to me to watch Jimmy Page during The Ocean on their! I swear, my husband told me my reaction was almost obscene the first time we watched it after it came out.

Beatles boring? This boggles my mind

::coming out of the closet:: Despite one of my closest friends in HS trying to convince me otherwise back in the day, I just don't like Zep's music. I take that back...there was one song I could stand, but I can't remember the name of it now... when it comes to me, I'll visit the new thread. That being said, I absolutely understand their appeal to others and their place in rock history.

On the other hand, I did like the Honeydrippers songs; and I might even like Robert Plant in his current form with Allison Kraus...I just haven't bothered to listen.

As an aside, my sons had their annual piano recital last night. Ethan played Stairway to Heaven, and brought the house (mostly 30's--50's aged-parents) down, so to speak. His song was the only one the piano teacher prefaced, saying something to the effect of going back in time and reliving the memories. (I'm bummed I can't remember her exact words...I'll have to replay the tape at some point and get it.) Graham followed with Cold Play's Viva la Vida, and did an awesome job as well--my two rock stars ! As you can tell, we have a pretty cool piano teacher. My guys definitely had the most hip songs; one other child did Bryan Adams and another Bill Withers...the rest were more traditional such as Harry Potter movie theme and of course good ol' Mozart!

I don't know many songs by the Beach Boys but the song Surfer Girl has always been a favorite of mine. When I was younger, my mom and I would drive across Oklahoma visiting our relatives and we'd be singing our heads off during the whole trip. Along with the Eagles, this Beach Boys song is one of the ones that we would always rewind and sing over and over again. I know it's a boy and girl kinda song but for me and my mom it always reminds us of those long drives together and over the years it has become "our" song.

I'm a fan of many of Coldplay's music. I love the song Viva la Vida. I heard on the radio recently about Coldplay ripping off the music to this song from artist Joe Satriani's song If I Could Fly. Satriani is sueing Coldplay over this. After listening to both, I can definitely see why he is sueing.

I rank these bands as #1 faves too.

As you guys know that I went and saw Styx for the first time about a month ago. Always been a huge fan and loved Tommy Shaw in Damn Yankees also with Jack Blade (of Night Ranger-Sister Christian). I had forgotten that they had done a solo album back in the late 80's together also and just discovered a couple of days ago that they had done a cd a couple years ago called Influence that is nothing but covers of old songs they say influenced them to do what they do now. It is fantastic! It has some great old songs that they really do justice to so I have downloaded some of them onto my ipod and am working on getting the cd thru ebay.

    Here's a sample of a few...

Summer Breeze originally by Seals & Croft

Time Of The Season originally by the Zombies
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NV1gYdAAJk&feature=related[/ame]

This one is just the audio but they sound so great doing it. California Dreamin' originally by the Mama's The Papa's
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHnITNABO_E[/ame]

    Your Move originally by Yes

So I have no idea what this guy's name is.....found him on youtube....LOVE him!! He does a ton of covers and I think I've watched every one! He's ridiculously talented for someone who taught himself everything and isn't planning on attempting a career in music! Here's his cover of U2's "With Or Without You"
