To the tune of Heartache Tonight

No Eagles gonna be on stage

    It's an unpleasant sight

    Everyone's gonna be so sad

    There's nothing we can do

It's gonna be a Miserable Night, Miserable Night I know

It's gonna be a Miserable Night, Miserable Night I know, Lord I know

We can beg, and plead, till we lose our voices, We can break out in a riot, but either way it's gonna be a Miserable Night, Miserable Night without them on Stage, WHOOO HOO!

Okay ladies!!!! To good to just read once and toss in the corner.

    NEW CONTEST!

Set a date for final submissions for the "contest".

Vote on the BEST one both technically as in Poetry and How well hit fits into the song the way it was originally sang.

Then pick the one with the most significant CONTENT.

The winner would be the one with the most in total score. (award "x" number of points for the one getting the most votes, "y" points for the next most number. Do that for both contests and add the two together to get the one that is the clear winner.

Then comes the fun part! RECORD IT!!!!!!!!!!

I was reading the posts Mike and Ticky put up in the "Weather" thread and threw out a suggestion to Mike, but since I don't see that he's put anything up -- and my imagination took off one more time.

To honor Ticky's bumper crops and Mike's agony --
    To the tune of Desperado:

Roto-tiller, you turn the soil so defty
But your jarring has left me with muscles that ache
You’ve done a fine and now my garden is ready
    The rain has been steady
    Better go fetch the rake

    Zuccini, carrots, peppers, peas…
It’s past the 4th, corn’s above my knees
The Mason jars are waiting on the shelf
I yank the weeds, I hoe the rows
And wonder if my mother knows
I wish she’d come and pull these weeds herself.

Roto-tiller, I hope that somehow you know
The spuds and tomatoes are causing me work
You’re on vacation while I’m out busting my chops
To harvest all of the crops (including barley and hops)
I think I’ll call the pawn shops
And try to sell you, you jerk!
I just need a little downtime.........

I see the same recurring themes here -- the Eagles (obviously) and food. You can thank Mike for the "roto-tiller" idea, got it from a post he put up yesterday. Seems everyone is having lots of fun with this thread.

...and following the food theme, here's a little ditty to the tune of "Heartache Tonight"

    Somebody wants a chimichanga
    Refried beans and rice
    Side order of tortillas too
    Sounding kind of nice
    Margarita on the frozen side
    Dash of salt and lime
Good eaten in the old southwest
    Then siesta time.

There’s gonna be a heartburn tonight
    A heartburn tonight, I know
There’s gonna be a heartburn tonight
    A heartburn tonight, I know
    You can chug-a-lug a beer
    Drink lemonade on ice
But if you eat the chilis, man,
    You’ll think about it twice
There’s gonna be a heartburn tonight
    A heartburn tonight, I know
I just need a little downtime.........

And the hits just keep on coming --

    ("The Long Run")

I’ve got a two-story shack with a garage ‘round the back
    And fifteen maples towering high
All my neighbors tell me it’s a pretty nice setting,
They wave at me as they drive by.
In summer time it’s a cool place to be
But here comes the fall, time to clean out the eaves
Wish I had a gardener to do the chore
On the wrong rung (on the wrong rung)
My kids refuse to do it, say the job’s a bore
On the wrong run (on the wrong rung)
I’ve offered to pay them twenty dollars an hour
They check out the ladder and all begin to cower
    At the wrong rung
Oooh, I want to tell you ‘bout the wrong rung.

The summer fades into autumn as the leaves sing their anthem
    “Rake us into several piles”
I go around to the shed, the whole time shaking my head
Wish the leaves would blow for miles
I prop up the ladder, climb on up to the eaves
Talk to myself while I clean out the leaves
Who is gonna help with my decent
Down the wrong rung (down the wrong rung)
Fell near the bottom now my leg is all bent
From the wrong rung (from the wrong rung)
Doc says its broken, should be fine in a year
Guess I’ll go watch the Eagles, drink a six-pack of beer
From the wrong rung, I just want to say
    I love the wrong rung
I just need a little downtime.........
