    1986 Bruce-mania remains in full swing as Bruce Springsteen's hotly anticipated five-album box set, Live/1975-85, becomes a retail sensation at Christmastime. The decade-spanning collection of concert recordings enters the chart at #1.

    2001 George Harrison dies at the age of 58 after a long battle with cancer.

    Anyone see the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary show last night? Paul Simon, David Crosby and Graham Nash did a beautiful rendition of George's "Here Comes The Sun". Breathtaking.

    Oh I would have loved to have seen that. George Harrison was an amazing talent who was content to be in the shadows of John and Paul. He is missed!!!

    1960 "Please Come Home for Christmas" is Charles Brown's last hit (#21 R&B, #76 pop). The Eagles' cover version becomes a Christmastime hit again in 1978, reaching #18.

    1961 "Please Mr. Postman," by the Marvelettes, becomes Motown's first Number one pop hit and second million-seller.

    1971 Give It Up, Bonnie Raitt's sophomore album, expands her range with three self-penned songs and outside contributions from contemporary writers like Jackson Browne and Eric Justin Kaz.


    1972 Having moved to the West Coast, a dispirited Billy Joel begins a six-month stint as a lounge pianist under the name Bill Martin. He encapsulates the experience in a song that will serve as his creative and commercial breakthrough, "Piano Man."

    1974 Linda Ronstadt reaches Number One with the single "You're No Good" and the album Heart like a Wheel.

    1985 Broken Wings (Mr. Mister) was a hit.

    1992 Nirvana's Nevermind hits Number One on Billboard's Top 200 album chart. It grosses $50 million in sales.

    1961 The Beatles meet future manager Brian Epstein for the first time, at his Liverpool record store.

    1971 A fire at a Frank Zappa concert at the Casino in Montreaux, Switzerland is later immortalized in Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water".

    1976 Bob Marley and his entourage are attacked by gunman. A wounded but undeterred Marley electrifies a crowd two nights later at a free "Smile Jamaica" concert.
