And the other notable change, instead of 'some say there's a Jesus/some that say there ain't' is 'some men pray to Jesus/ask him please relieve my pain' (sic). I knew about that because the old tape I have of the song in Australia at the start of 1976 includes those changes.

Yes, FP. That's the other change I was referring to. I can't decide which version I like better, but I do think I prefer the "56 Chevrolet" line. Do you know which way it was written originally?

I like the change in those lyrics better than the original ones. The "relieve my pain" lyrics definitely convey more of a sense of desperation and despair than the original "some say there is / some say there ain't / when you got no life to lose then there's nothing left to gain." The original lyrics seem to be saying "I don't care anymore - I've given up." The changed ones seem to be saying "I still care and it's torturing me." That adds a deeper shading to the song, which in this version ends with an anguished "It only looks like rain, it only looks like rain."

I would think that 'I was riding night and day' is the original line.

I thought it would be fun to create a new thread for our memories, so I did so here:

You know, as I did the "Today in Eagles History" for Sept. 11, I remembered the 9/11 attacks which happened 8 years ago today. At first I thought I couldn't really call it an event in Eagles history but then I realized it affected them strongly, as it affected all of us, and inspired them to write Hole in the World. I changed the day's status accordingly.

Almost didn't mention that on this day in 1985, Don Henley won the MTV Video Award for Best Video with Boys of Summer, and Glenn Frey won the MTV Video Award for Best Concept Video with Smuggler's Blues.

I noticed on the Today in Eagles History calendar that in 1965 Timothy was attacked by a female fan hired by his manager while he was in The New Breed. I thought that was hilarious. I have never heard this one before, but I take it that his band must have been struggling a bit if the manager had to recruit females to attack the members.
