Well, it's not easy; I love them both so much, but I had to pick one.

I cast my vote for The End of the Innocence.

The deciding factor? That one line that's always annoyed me: "lay your head back on the ground and let your hair fall all around me." It doesn't make sense logistically. It's not a huge deal and I still think the song is magnificent, but I had to make a decision somehow!

I don't think I'll surprise anyone if I confess already that I want HOTM to win it all but now I'm down to 2 songs that I've had a very hard time deciding between. So with the flip of a coin......

I vote for End Of The Innocence.

Sorry Bruce but Boys Of Summer was such an epic hit in the 80s and most people who claim to not know anything about any of the Eagles would still know this song.

I gotta agree with Soda. How does her hair fall "all around him" if she's laying her head back on the ground? Her hair would be falling all around HER. lol

Exactly. Look to the video for the song for an illustration:

(the first instance is at 1:20)

Even the director of the video couldn't figure out how to have her laying her head back on the ground at the same time as her hair was falling all around the actor!

Hmmm - I don't know. If he were totally 'in her face' - you know really up close and personal (KWIM) - I can definitely envision her hair falling all around both of them. But, for me, it's kind of the 'po-tay-to', 'po-tah-to' thing - it doesn't really matter cause I definitely get the picture and there's some very hot imagery playing around in my head whenever I hear the line. Just saying ...

It is one of those songs that is timeless and no matter how many times I hear it, I never tire of it. It is just as perfect now as it was when it was first released. I know the term masterpiece can be overused, but in this case, it's definitely applicable - it is superb musically, vocally, and lyrically.
Interesting. I agree with everything said here, except that I would apply these same words directly to The End of the Innocence instead of Boy of Summer. To me, TEOTI deserves that status even more than BOS. Again, both great songs, but for me at least, The End of the Innocence has an even more classic, iconic status, and is a more emotionally powerful song. Without any hesitation,

I vote to eliminate Boys of Summer.
