    I had always assumed Krieger was in the same role as someone like Gilmour - someone who was not in a hard rock group so he didn't get to showcase his abilities much but probably could play at a Jan Akkerman/Tony iommi level.

    Could be. He has an eclectic taste in music (you know that he and Densmore had a reggae band after the Doors split up). Robby has played a number of times in that Hendrix tribute show that was traveling around, so maybe he does enjoy playing "heavy." I know he admires Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page.

    Those are my three favorites... Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Robby Krieger..

    I also love Peter Green, Tony Iommi (riffs), Don Felder

    It's interesting that these guitarists have very different styles. I much prefer your preferences to when I meet people who list several favourite guitarists, all of whom shred, and all of whom sound identical to me.
