    Default RIP Matt "Guitar" Murphy

When your husband's name phonetically matches the real name of one of the Blues Brothers, news about the Blues Brothers or one of the band is a big deal. (Okay, at least in our house.)

Matt "Guitar" Murphy, a noted musician outside his relationship to the Blues Brothers band, died last week at the age of 88. He had previously suffered a stroke in 2002. He was, of course, in the 1980 Blues Brothers movie, playing the husband to Aretha Franklin's soul-food restaurant owner (and waitress - "Four fried chickens and a Coke").

I put on my Blues Brothers DVD last week since the 38th Anniversary of the movie coming out was last week. I didn't know he was that old. It looks like he was the oldest of all of them.

    RIP Guitar Murphy.

    Brothers for life. RIP Glenn

I'm not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet. It will be very strange going forward in a world without him in it. But, I will be grateful, every day, that he was in my life. Rest in peace, my brother. You did what you set out to do, and then some." -Don Henley
