I'm convinced he'll be nominated, too. If so, I hope he performs at the awards shows like the Eagles did for the CMAs in 2007 and 2008... but perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself.
Nahh. Soda. You're not thinking too ahead.
I think he will perform at the CMAs and I definitely seeing him being nominated for the Vocal Event of The Year at the CMAs even the Grammys. With a lot of country stars on his album, he probably will be invited to perform at the CMAs. Being nominated probably won't start until next year. I think there's a certain timeline for songs to be nominated for the CMAs or any awards show.
I just look up the deadline for voting for nomination for the CMAs of each year. They have to put out a single, album etc between July 1st the year before to June 30th the following year. So he's eligible to be nominated for a CMA next year, but could still perform at this year's awards show. But than again. Some country singers will probably not be happy about that. He'll be safe for the Vocal Event of The Year.
He keeps being so vocal about how low the bar is with today's country he won't be asked to perform. I'm not saying I don't agree with him, because I definitely do, but Nashville has proven they'd rather have young money than quality.

You can't change the world but you can change yourself.
I've got a feeling that he'll be honored with a CMA award or another award (possibly grammy?). Maybe best duet. I wonder if there's a category for "best guest performance on a song"?

People don't run out of dreams, People just run out of time
If Don does perform at the CMA awards I hope it's nothing like the Eagles. I hope he's engaging and entertaining.
I get the impression that a lot of awards shows are somewhat predictable and without even hearing it, Cass County has got, award winner, written all over it.
I wonder if the sycophants on this side of the Atlantic will have some thing to award Don this or next year. He's been around long enough.
I'm not sure how predictions of award nominations can be made before any of us have even heard this album. I mean it may win every award going but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

That's a fair point, FP. It's just that it's pretty typical for someone who's been in the business as long as Don has to at least get a nomination at these country award shows, especially if they are doing a duet with a hot young star. Bob Seger even won an award at the CMTs for his duet with Jason Aldean, and he's nowhere near Don in name recognition.
The Grammys are a tougher nut to crack. We'll see.
Always the cynic, it'd be a little scoop to have Don perform at their awards show. A nominations or two, plus a couple of guest duetist also being present at the Ceremony would pave the way for something special.
You can see the possibilities without hearing a note of Cass County. Prestige and prominence are far more important than merit.
Don might have some competition out there. James Taylor just got to number 1 on Billboard album chart. First time in a long time.
