I'm now the new owner of a barely used 14 inch HP Pavilion laptop. My grandmother bought it for me from a local reputable pawn shop. It'll be my college laptop. It's got all the bells and whistles needed, except a cd-rom drive, and it has Windows 8 installed. My uncle and I are currently at my other uncle's house using his dsl to install 3 years of uodates! It's working great so far. 500 gig hard drive, 4 gigs of RAM, and fairly lightweight. Looks like it'll be a good laptop.

Well, the computer is now up to date. Now, I'm personalizing it. (I'm posting this from it)

This is about internet service, not computers, but I didn't know where else to put it.

I'm looking into getting another kind of internet service besides the 20 gigs 4g Verizon service I have with my phone plan. I'll probably need more than that amount starting in June, and I really don't want to go up a size or 2 with Verizon. Doing that would cost the same, if not more, than getting a new service. I could actually go down on my Verizon plan, if I got another service for home use.
The questions are, what to choose and what works best in my area? At&t provides home phone and dsl internet service here, but all of the ports are already being used. The only other option I know of is satellite internet, like Hughesnet or Dishnet. They supposedly work anywhere in the lower 48 states, but I kind of have my doubts, especially in such a rural area that I live in.

Do any borderers have satellite Internet? I'm wondering how reliable it is, how fast/slow pages load, or how much do videos buffer, etc?

Satellite internet isn't the best. You either have a data plan and a cap on the speed before they throttle you. Also satellite internet in general isn't as fast as cable or DSL.

Austin, somewhere you mentioned that you had gone from iphone to android, I think. I think you mentioned that you can put itunes on an android phone. I've tried to do that with mine, but it can't open the file. And it's in a download rather that it's own special icon. Can you tell me how to get it to work?

Hey Brooke, sorry I've missed this thread. I've been here but I didn't see this.

I'm not a android convert yet, I am considering it though. I love Apple and their iPad beats out any Android tablet but the iPhone is getting behind in terms of innovation and features Samsung and the like have had for at least a couple years now. Wireless charging, fast charging with a cord, better screen, more RAM, yada yada yada. Things only a nerd like me might appreciate.

You cannot put iTunes itself on an android device.

You can, however, put your iTunes music on a Android device with a free app called DoubleTwist. I've not done it yet, but I do know you can do it. I think there are probably instructions on their site but basically it moves your iTunes music, playlists, etc to the stock music app on your Android device and so you lose nothing but Apple doesn't make an iTunes for Android. They make an Apple Music app, but that's for subscription plan and is not applicable here.

If I jump ship and do the DoubleTwist, I'll come back here and write out detailed instructions but I have no experience but their site might help you. Basically it's an app on the PC/Mac, and an app on the Android device.

I'm scared to buy an apple iphone or ipod as I'm absent-minded and I'll probably eventually break it or lose it. I bought a Sony android phone and hated it. Very poor memory management, unresponsive screen, underpowered processor without enough memory. I put up for it for years then bought a cheap no-brand phone. IMHO it's really good, head and shoulders above the Sony in pretty much every way. Sometimes it seems you get what you don't pay for.

DoubleTwist will work with iTunes on a PC or MAC.
