I was initially expecting Joe and the Eagles to offer two separate tracks to the CD. After Glenn's death, I read a guest list that included Walsh and Henley contributions so I'm disappointed that there is actually just the single Eagles track. The confirmed track list suggests that they've added Don and Tim's backing vocals to the Walsh track and labelled it as the Eagles. I wonder who's playing drums and bass?

I'm pretty sure that there are a number of tracks on Long Road Out of Eden that don't feature all of Glenn, Don, Tim and Joe so Part Of The Plan may not be setting that precedent but I don't recall the Eagles recording a cover for a tribute/benefit album before, so I'm kinda pleased at that. it does have a suggestion of testing the water for further Eagles releases in the future, though.

I still look to Irving, Don, Joe and Tim, rather than disenchanted fans, to judge the authenticity of the Eagles and why is this discussion relegated to the "Tour Talk" thread
Soda already stated that it's in this topic because '' Here I am making a new post in this thread, because instead of the same old song we have a new one... literally.

We now have a song on the Dan Fogelberg tribute album that is released by the "Eagles" (Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit).''

Yes, I am a 'disenchanted fan' and I have as much right to judge 'authenticity' as you do Please don't pretend you think it should only be left to the people involved when it is obvious you see it as 'authentic'.

As it has come up, I give you a line from They're Not Here, They're Not Coming' - 'no authenticity, no sense of soul'. Don't tell me how I should respond to this. You have your view, I have mine.

Finally I think it has already been established that the track features HWS, not Glenn. So saying it's possible he had some input would appear not to be the case.

It's probable that only Joe even plays on the track & the others just sing backup. So as I said earlier, there was absolutely no need to call it 'Eagles'.
Just because Fogelberg has a tribute album doesn't mean Glenn won't have one. DF died in 2007. They've been working on this for years. And while Glenn didn't contribute musically, it is possible that he had input as to whether they would participate and what song they would sing.

Honestly, I too have wondered if this thread should be divided at this point, since this isn't really a tour discussion - and yet it is an "Eagles 3.0" discussion. I decided to keep it in this thread as a result, yet neither choice is entirely satisfactory.

I couldn't agree more. We, the fans (of the real band) are the ones that got them to where they are today (or at least before Glenn died). Without us, they would have nothing. If F50 wants looks up to Irving, of all people, who cares more about the money than what's right as the guy to tell you when it's real or not, by all means. I'd trust his "judgment" about as far as I could throw him. Yeah, I'd put my trust with them too. NOT. It's like people who still trust someone who continually takes advantage of them or screws them over and takes their money. It's hard to feel sorry for them after awhile. The same feeling applies here.

Yes, it's for a good cause, but IMO they should call it "Eagles".

    .
From what I've read, it's a Walsh cover with Henley and Schmit on backing vocals. I'll judge the authenticity, for what it's worth, when I hear it. I'd expect an Eagles contribution to be sung by Glenn or Don but just having the Eagles name on the cover should raise significantly more money for the charity they're supporting.

Irving and the band committed to this project long before Glenn's death, I'm pleased that they've honored it. I presume that it was pretty much done before Vince and Deacon came into the picture. Adding Don and Tim to Joe's track could have been a compromise to save them releasing a track featuring Glenn or with Glenn edit-ted out.

Being a staunch Walsh fan, I was switched onto to Fogelberg quite a long time ago and became a fan. Part Of the Plan isn't a favourite though. I must have put together over a dozen Fogelberg mix tapes, for my own enjoyment, over the years, I'm sure Part Of The Plan isn't on any of them. I'll be pleasantly surprised if I like the Walsh/Eagles version. I'd hoped that the Eagles would tackle one of Fogelberg's more weighty dramatic numbers(for Henley) or something romantic (for Frey) but since Glenn's died I'm just pleased that it's finally out.

With Irving's commitment to Fogelberg's tribute completed he can now turn his attention to the Frey tribute he spoke about shortly after Glenn's death.

Sorry to go off topic but Irving's the guy who spared no expense and effort in bringing in the eight top specialists to try and save Glenn's life. I think he's worthy of respect, as are Joe, Tim and Don.

I think Part of the Plan is a great choice for them to sing. Joe produced the album Souvenirs that it was on. Dan was the opening act for the Eagles in 1975 when I saw my first Eagles concert and that song was his first big hit. I was a big Fogelberg fan and continued going to his concerts after seeing him open for the Eagles.

The death of Tom Petty brought it home that I'm glad to see these men still out there and playing and apparently enjoying it. In doing so, they make a lot of people happy.

I'd be very happy if they did a tribute album for Glenn at some point and if it's for the benefit of research on Rheumatoid Arthritis, so much the better.

Well, hmmmmmm. Have to say I'm shocked that they would do this under the 'Eagles' name. I'm very disappointed in H, W, and S. They could have just used their names if they wanted to contribute. They are well known enough to sell that.

I do love Dan and am glad this album is going to be made though if Dan's fans think it will help the cause. I don't really care for these compilation type albums though. Just probably not one I will buy regardless.
