    Default Top 10 Favourite Singers

Thanks to TBF for the suggestion. Here are mine:

    1. Glenn Frey
    2. Don Henley
    3. John Lennon
    4. Paul McCartney
    5. Van Morrison
    6. Mick Jagger
    7. Bob Dylan
    8. Robert Plant
    9. Elton John
    10. Mark Knopfler /Neil Young (tie)

I realise that Dylan's singing is not for everybody, but I cannot leave him out. As for Knopfler, ditto, but although he may not have the most 'tuneful' voice or a great deal of range, I defy anyone to hear him sing Romeo & Juliet and not get a lump in their throat.

Honourable mention to Randy Newman, whose singing also is not for everybody, but he does it for me.

My favourite female singer is Kate Bush. There is nobody like her, although I agree with Rolling Stone about Aretha. I don't think I can do a Top 10, at least not yet.

This is pretty off the cuff, but these are the ones that immediately came to mind:

    1. Don Henley
    2. David Gilmour
    3. Neil Young
    4. Tom Waits
    5. Robert Plant
    6. Glenn Frey
    7. Randy Newman
    8. Morrissey
    9. Jeff Buckley
    10. Phil Lynott

I'd also like to fit Jackson Browne in there somewhere. Paul Young too, at his best, had a gorgeous rough, soulful voice that I adore. More honourable mentions to Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. As for female singers, I admire Stevie Nicks, Annie Lennox, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell & Joan Armatrading.

Hmm....I'm almost embarrassed to admit that most of my favorite would be people that hardly anyone has heard of lol

I decided to stick with pretty much all "well-knowns."

But my list would have otherwise included:

    Marc Broussard
    Jonny Lang
    Kenny Hinson
Kelly Clarkson (yeah yeah I know but she's awesome!)
David Cook (again...I know....but awesome! lol)
Whitney Houston (I know a lot of posters here aren't fans of the "power vocalists" or the vocal runs....but I LOVE it! )
    Martina McBride
    Stevie Nicks
    Wynonna Judd
the guy that sings "Long Train Runnin'" for the Doobie Brothers (LOVE his voice but never learned his name! lol Same with the lead singer for Boston)

But then...if we're sticking to just rock 'n roll singers....that would narrow it right down LOL

The Doobies' singer before Michael McDonald was Tom Johnston. Boston's singer was the late Brad Delp.

The person on your first list I haven't heard of is Russ Lee. On your second list I haven't heard of Jonny Lang & Kenny Hinson.

This will take some major thinking on my part but top name will be Jonny Lang without a doubt!!!! LOVE his voice, always have. Will have to get back with you guys--but gotta tell you, loving some of the names I am already seeing, Jonny, David Gilmour, Steve Perry--good stuff here!!!
He sings it high, he plays it low

Willie, I don't know if you've heard Marc Broussard before...but if you like Jonny Lang I bet you'd like Marc! Very similar bluesy/soulful voices!
