I took these a couple weeks ago on my way to work one morning and thought they were pretty.

So, Ga, I know you are interested in photography and have some kind of formal training. Which one would be considered a better picture? I realize they are not really great pictures cause I just have a cheap Nikon camera. Just wondering.....

They are both lovely Brooke, it is very difficult to catch a sunrise without items in the foreground appearing too dark. Given a choice I would go for the first one, simply beacuse the gate tends to give the whole scene a bit more perspective. It draws your eye to that area of the pic, and then the sun is directly above it. JMHO!! Well done. I drive to work so rarely get the opportunity to take pics.

Great pictures Brooke. Looks very much like something you'd get on this side of the Atlantic. Not often you get that!

Very nice, Brooke! I'm no expert, but I like the first one better as well. The darkness of the gate balances out the sun, and in my opinion, adds to the mood of the picture, kind of a restful, relaxing sunrise. The fact that you were driving along and determined this would make a good picture means you have a good eye. Having the right equipment is only half of the equation!

    Thanks for your comments everyone!

The fence and pasture is just across the road from my driveway so it was easy to stop, get out and take the picture. At first I liked the one without the gate, but the more I looked at them I kind of thought the gate added to the pic too!
