Joey Murcia played on Joe's But Seriously Folks lp in '78. That too could have been done at Criteria as Bill S. wasn't too into recording in L.A. any more by that point. You might want to try to contact Joe Vitale, he might be able to help I.D. If that guitar was actually used in the recording of HC I imagine it would be considered a very valuable guitar.

I haven't seen that one before! But that doesn't mean anything - just that I haven't seen pics of it before.

I do know that it was a Telecaster for sure on Hotel California, that much I do know, so that's a step in the right direction.

That's a pretty interesting piece - Gibson style bridge and tailpiece, and a cut-off Telecaster bridge plate. Definitely a custom/modified guitar - very cool!

You can't click on avatar photos to make them bigger but it looks like a Fender Stratocaster.

I don't have time to look through them at this point but here's where I keep the Hotel California-era photos of Joe:

Of course, that's not comprehensive. There's many photos of Joe from that era that I don't have, but it's a good place to start.

It would definitely be quite valuable if you could prove it was the guitar Joe used during those sessions.

    Thank you.

Well folks, Don Felder got back to me. Unfortunately, he does not remember the guitar. He does say that Joey Murcia hung with them in Miami but does not remember Joe giving him a guitar or that guitar in Joe's collection. He did however, tell me ask Joe. So, I still have something I believe, just not the
"holy grail" I was hoping for. If I could only get in touch with either of the Joe's maybe I could get to the bottom of this. Thanks everyone for your ideas and support!

I wonder if he wanted you to believe it was this guitar? Obviously, it isn't, considering the wood grain isn't correct.

Try contacting Joe Vitale, Jr. Perhaps he could connect you w/his father.

    Thanks again!

I'm sorry, but Don Felder is the best when it comes to social media and his fans. So cool. Good luck with your guitar mystery hunt - very exciting! Joe Vitale!
