Sad. I only knew him as an actor. I didn't know he was a playwright, a Pulitzer award-winning one at that.
RIP

Aww that's sad. I didn't know Sam had ALS.
He and Jessica Lange were a couple for 26 years before they separated in 2009.
Loved him in Baby Boom, Steel Magnolias, and The Pelican Brief. Its sad I haven't seen half of his movies, but I knew him.
Brothers for life. RIP Glenn
I'm not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet. It will be very strange going forward in a world without him in it. But, I will be grateful, every day, that he was in my life. Rest in peace, my brother. You did what you set out to do, and then some." -Don Henley
Was he really the drummer in Lothar and the Hand People or was someone on IMDB having a laugh.
RIP Sam. So sad to see this. He was such a great actor and I loved him recently on "Bloodline" playing Sissy Spacek's husband and the father of Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, Norbert Leo Butz, and Linda Cardelini. The scenes he shared with them were fantastic, and I loved how his character too would take his ukulele and play/sing on the beach (which the show ended with him singing). I had no idea he had ALS either.

I've heard Bloodline is very good. Was his illness not obvious? I'm surprised he was still able to act.
It was a great show and just wrapped up it's run. He showed no signs that I could tell during it that he had it and I'm not sure if he was diagnosed with it during it's first season (in 2015, but filmed in 2014) or later, but he was only in the first two seasons and they used older footage and audio for the third & final so that might explain why he wasn't in season 3.

Sad loss of a multi-talented artist. R.I.P.

All of the special things about you
He could have been.
During the sixties, Sam Sheppard lived at the infamous Chelsea Hotel and hung out with and had a brief fling with Patti Smith who was also living at the hotel. The whole Chelsea crowd hung out at Max's Kansas City along with musicians, politicians, playwrites, etc. So maybe, if just for one psychedelic moment!
Stay Tuned!
