    Default RIP Mickey Rooney

Mickey Rooney has passed away at the age of 93 today.

He was best known for his MGM films with leading ladies such as Judy Garland (Andy Hardy films) and marrying the beautiful Ava Gardner. He won a Juvenile Oscar in 1939 for his contributions to the film industry at a very young age.

On a personal note, I think my favorite role of his was in "National Velvet" with Elizabeth Taylor. And, let's not forget his great voice overs in some of the Rankin-Bass Christmas specials, too.

Another Hollywood legend has passed on...

I love the Andy Hardy series and I also love the "backyard musicals" that he starred in with Judy Garland such as "Babes in Arms", "Strike up the Band" & "Babes on Broadway". I bet Judy is happy to see him again.

    RIP Mickey

One of the old movies I mentioned watching in another thread was "Quicksand" starring Mickey Rooney. I must have been watching it just hours before he died. What an icon of cinema, one of the last of his generation. RIP.

I always remember Dana Carvey's impression of him - "I was the greatest star-In the World!" Makes laugh, but there is some truth to it. It's amazing that he was able to stay working for as long as he did. It's a testament to his talent.

Haha, that is very true! She was huge next to him. They were definitely a mis-match, and most biographies describe their rather robust between-the-sheets details probably a little too much for me. Their marriage didn't last too long, but it did wonders to her career
