His kids' hair is no longer curly, though.

Looking at his hair when young, I don't think he probably got curly hair until after puberty, which is common trend in males--those crazy hormones. . And it's common that kids can outgrow curls as they age. Doesn't mean they didn't inherit them from him. They're lucky to have any genes and talents they got from him!
