Watching it again now. You know, Don Henley says that his father's life goal was to get Don a college education and his father scrimped and saved for 18 years to put Don through school, yet Don quit college a semester before graduating. He must have broken his daddy's heart. There's a story there... guess we'll have to wait until his autobiography to hear it.
I have to admit that I was hoping for more depth and intensity than we got when it came to talking about their childhoods/adolescences and less stock footage, but I guess there's only so much you can do in the time allotted and I understand they need to "set the scene."
Some more comments:
Man, how awful is Glenn's attempt at a British accent when trying to imitate Glyn Johns? It's making me cringe!
Johns sure didn't let these guys get too cocky. He basically told them "You wish you could rock as hard as The Who and Led Zeppelin but next to them you are weak wannabe posers. Now go and sing some pretty harmonies." Ouch! Can't you just see the crestfallen looks? "But...but...we wanna be cool rock stars!"
I do appreciate that Don Henley was professional enough not to want to get high in the studio back in 1972, but I guess he would change his tune in a few years!
We backed it up and played Glenn's imitation back to back with Glyn actually speaking and they sounded the same to all of us. Maybe we just picked a good part of what Glenn said.
I was thinking I'd watch it again tonight, but the Pens are playing. Maybe tomorrow night.

OM - I missed that as well. The one scene I remember without going back and watching again was near the beginning. My recollection is that he didn't try to hide the joint at all. But there were other clips of plane footage used so maybe it was another scenes. Do you remember about when the scene that you are referring to took place in the documentary so we can check it out as we rewatch it?
