    I''m confused, VA. I thought Mother's Day was on May 12th. Is it Mother's Day somewhere else in the world today?

    Today we celebrated 'Mothering Sunday" in church. This is an annual event. I wonder if it is connected to the European 'Mother's day?

    Quite possibly - The origins of Mother's Day in Europe was that on the middle Sunday in lent, girls who were working in service (maids) were allowed a half holiday to go home to visit their mothers on that day. They usually baled a cake to bring with them for their mothers , hence the gift giving tradition.
