I think it might be partially because of the back problems i think he mentioned in an interview that one of his shoulders had gotten higher than the other and he actually had to have therapy to fix it! so i think that may be part of it, but as far as the live sound goes Scott Crago is an amazing drummer, and keeps the songs simple and sounding original.....I would love to see don behind the set for Long Road Out of Eden and How Long though........

Don has always underplayed his talent as a drummer, but I agree with you, DW, if his back is that bad he has to protect it for those tracks he wants to play live. Scott Crago is indeed a very good replacement when Don chooses to come out to the front.

Don comes into the category of a top athlete, according to this article.

Makes me wonder even more why they are wearing suits or even the double layer of shirts!

After finally resolving the internet troubles I'm back!, and i figured I'd update the drum info. The white ones in the post on page three and any other long run concert photos were never played by Don, the white set was for the backup drummer at the time Joe Vitale. I guess he would do the same thing as Scott Crago and fill in on drums when don wanted to go out in front with the others.

    Hi Everyone
My name is Patrick (go by Pat) and this is my first post to this board!
How exciting to find it (searching stuff about Don Felder’s book).
I’ve been an Eagles fan since I was 14 years old (for the record I’m in my 40s now).
I used to play in an Eagles cover band – I played drums and sang (I was the Don of the group)- He and Levon Helm from the Band were huge influences on me. Anyone can tell you singing and playing the drums at the same time aint easy. I’ve always thought Don was an underrated drummer. He’s incredibly solid (saw them in ’77 & ‘79).
Actually, I’m posting with a question….What type of drums is he using now?
In the video “How Long” he has this really cool small kit. I really don’t play much anymore, so I’m a little out of it, but that set looked so cool. Was wondering if anyone knew any details about it.
    Thanks again, and GREAT BOARD!!

Hi Pat! Welcome to the Border!

I'm not sure on the specifics of it, but he is using a Drum Workshop set. He is also using DW in the Long Road Out of Eden tour right now. I play the drums a bit myself, and I've never had the chance to work with this brand, but from what I heard in concert they sounded really great. I've always heard they are a pretty solid brand.

Thanks Melrose-I LOVE the look of his new kit (in the How Long video).
It's small yet looks really well made and solid. I've never seen anything like it.
