There's no new interviews with Eagles; instead, Vaughn quotes/refers to Eagles interviews and articles other people have done over the years. However, he did conduct his own interviews with some folks from the early days like JD Souther and Jim Ed Norman, as well as members of the scene back then like David Crosby.

Why would they have been laughing? Bernie was about to leave the band. He was angry with Glenn. He poured a beer on Glenn's head. How could that situation be funny?

I don't say that because my sympathies presumably would have been with Glenn. To me it sounds like the atmosphere was pure poison when the incident occurred.
