I saw him interviewed before she skated - he said he had sent her an e-mail telling her he understood and that no matter what happened, he knew her mother would have been proud of her. What a moving story. I'm so glad he came back to win the gold, but as he told Joannie, I'm sure his sister would have been proud no matter what.

Congratulations to Canada on their hockey gold medal - and according to this, Toronto Maple Leafs fan Neil Young was in attendance!

Yea Canada! It was a great game. Both teams deserve congratulations! They showed Neil Young during the broadcast, as well as William Shatner, Bryan Adams & Michael J Fox. Closing ceremonies start in about 20 minutes. I'll be watching.

I was rooting for the USA, but after seeing the sheer, unadulterated ecstasy on the faces of thousands of Canadians on TV last night, I'm glad they won. They made the celebrations in New Orleans after the Saints won the Superbowl look sedate.

Those closing ceremonies were... interesting. With the dozens of giant inflated beavers, mounties, moose, etc. wheeled in to great fanfare, interspersed with dancing girls dressed up as maple leaves and children dressed up as hockey pucks, I thought that I was watching Canada: The Musical.

Have to put in a plug for the Cinderella team of the Sweet 16, my undergrad alma mater, the CORNELL BIG RED!! Prior to this season, we had been in the NCAA dance the last 2 years, but never won a game. Thus far, we've beaten better-seeded teams Temple and Wisconsin (each by a good margin), but now it's on to #1 Kentucky on Thursday night in Syracuse. It'll be the closest thing to a home crowd, since the Carrier Dome is only an hour north of Ithaca, but it'll take all the heart and skill this team can muster to beat Kentucky, that's for sure. GO RED! My bro and I are in the alumni lottery to try to get tix to the game...it will be great to be there! I'll let you know if I make it to Syracuse.

Congratulations to Cornell. Lots of upsets this year!

My Fighting Illini are still in the NIT. They beat Kent State last night 75-58. (Sorry Joe!)

I forgot...my OTHER alma mater (for vet school), Ohio State, also made it into the Sweet 16! But their athletic prowess is much more consistently stellar, so it's not so unexpected as Cornell's appearance. GO BUCKS!
