LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song and the lyrics and the music and the way Don sings it, etc.... There's a reason this song is a favorite of so many people who don't even claim to be Eagles fans.

I agree that it's a song about a man in search of that perfect woman (good luck--they don't exist!) and in MY mind, he's actually looking for one who leans more to the daughter of the devil himself. With lines like,
    The full moon is calling
    The fever is high
And the wicked wind whispers and moans
    You've got your demons
    And you've got desires
But I got a few of my own

I'm thinking he looking for one that leans towards the "naughty". Or it could just be my dirty mind and the way he sings it. And I've thought that way for over 30 years about this song so no one burst my bubble now.
He sings it high, he plays it low

I totally agree, TBF. Someone who leans towards 'naughty' but can be the angel in white at the parent's dinner table! Someone who is an overall nice person but yet not nearly perfect (except maybe perfect for him). For over 30 years, I was pretty sure he was describing me

Glenn is doing a lot of harmonies in the chorus. Vocals and guitar overdubs.

Musically...I love this song for being so heavy on the bass...
IMO the closest Randy ever came to a "bass solo" (listen carefully at the end of the intro to hear a funky little slide--which shows up twice--that I never noticed until recently!)

Very layered...with the keyboard (I didn't notice it either until I saw/heard the live version from Houston 76!)...I can sit back and keep picking out the different guitar parts sounding like undercurrents...

Lyrically...try to explain this to one of the parents when they walk in on you listening and you are, um, 12?!
I blame my stepbrothers (I think there's still label tape with Anthony's initials on my LP copy) for leaving this album around. OOTN (and HC) "accidentally" got packed with my stuff when we moved

    Oh yessss...that one too!

Was just asking a fellow at church who gave bass lessons around here...I would love to have an ounce of Mr. Meisner's talent!!

Anyhoo...I still wanna learn that slide that Randy does right before Don starts singing...and he does it again later in the song...dang...

I love this song and my hubby does too! One of our favorites! Love the way Don sings it-soooooo sexy! I especially love that intake of air after he sings "one of these lost and lonely dreams now, we're gonna find one....." Hot!

    Favorite line:

I've been searching for the daughter of the devil himself,
I've been searching for an angel in white,

    No, VA, it's me!

I'm going to have to crank it up and see if I can hear Glenn, too. I've never been able to distinguish him, but I'm really sure he's there doing his harmony part.
