    Beatles (first, last and forever)
    Eagles
    Rolling Stones
    Led Zeppelin
    Dire Straits
    Bee Gees

And then I struggle. I like a lot of bands and I have several albums by each but for the most part my favourite artists are solo acts. I will list the next 14 acts in no particular order:

    Byrds
    Electric Light Orchestra
    Steely Dan
    Wings
    Moody Blues
    Queen
    Roxy Music
    Midnight Oil
    Crowded House
    Cold Chisel
    Creedence Clearwater Revival
    The Band
    Abba
Pink Floyd (it was either them or Genesis & really I'm only talking about two albums but the songs mean more to me than Genesis' songs).

I love Bob Seger but to me the Silver Bullet Band is his backing band.

Twenty is a lot of bands! When it comes to "favorites" - the bands I adore - it's down to:

    My "Big three":

    Eagles
    Fleetwood Mac
    U2

Some other faves (in alphabetical order)

    Alabama
    Bon Jovi
    Chicago
    Coldplay
    Duran Duran
    Evanescence
    Foo Fighters
    Genesis
    Green Day
    INXS
    Matchbox 20
    Maroon 5
    The Monkees
    R.E.M.
    Tears for Fears
    The Temptations
    Train

I left off Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers because I wasn't sure that would count as a "group." Same goes for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, and Huey Lewis and the News.

It occurred to me that if I had been asked this in 1994 before the Eagles reformed, I would have included REM and Oasis on my list. While I still like the albums I have by both bands in my opinion neither of them ever lived up to their promise (fans of Automatic For The People will probably disagree with me but I thought REM started to decline after Out Of Time).

20 is a lot for favorites, but I'll give it a shot.

    Eagles-All Time #1

The rest could be in a different order on any given day:

Creedence Clearwater Revival-most importantly John Fogerty
Crosby, Stills & Nash-with or without Young
    Aerosmith
    Bon Jovi
    Fleetwood Mac
    Rolling Stones
    Foreigner
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (I'm counting them as a band)
    Pink Floyd
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
    Led Zeppelin
    Bad Company
    REO Speedwagon
    Steve Miller Band
    Journey
    Guns N' Roses
    Lynyrd Skynard

18 is all I can manage as "favorites", but I'm sure there's someone I forgot!
