Mike Allsup (the pride of Fresno!) has a pretty great book about his experiences.... it is kind of a collectors only thing so a little pricey but well worth it...

How they got together has some hilarious stories to say the least... and well, drugs definitely messed that band up...

I think Chuck had the worst problems... but I'm sure he wasn't the only one...

In their shows in the 70's they had a keyboard player that was called "the wizard" and he would go wild and do a long long solo in each show which culminated in "Chest Fever" (the Band song) which (and lightning may strike me) was better than the Band's version.

That is terrific that they still have it... I definitely enjoyed their shows 'back in the old days!"

I had no gig tonight and spent the evening tinkering... I just finished working on a setup on an acoustic guitar and the first song I started playing was "out in the country" which might be my favorite TDN song....

    good stuff!

What woodie are you using? Are you running it through a mixer and Direct Input are are you trying to go into the sound card...or are you just mic'ing it through a amp?

I use a Fender Acoustasonic JR. for my Seagull. Love it.

I've just recently started trying to do some home recording. Using a Tone Direct with GearBox software as a direct interface via USB...no sound card involved.

I'm way far out of shape for acoustic work. Right now, my fingers are sore from working on a bluegrass set with my father-in-law. I use heavy strings for the tone, but have played it so little that my pads just disappeared <LOL>

Ohhh, I've got a bunch of guitars... the one I was setting up was for a friend... it is a really nice Larrivee D-03.. I put the K&K Western Sound pickup in his awhile back. He wanted a bone nut and leaner action... so I did that for him... it is a really good sounding guitar.

My main acoustic is a Larrivee Pete Anderson... it has a BBand acoustic system.. I'd love to switch it out for a sunrise setup, but, I don't play acoustic out very often so I don't really need it.

For recording, at home I use Logic and Garageband and Melodyne and either a little Apogee or an alesis 8 tracks at once. Our rehearsal barn we have a pretty cool setup for 16 tracks at once....

I like the acoustasonic amps a lot! We use two SFXII's in our band, one for the fiddle player and one for the rhythm player...

I have a little line6 guitar capture box... some of the models are cool in the gearbox software.... For electrics... oh man, I mostly play homemade teles, but I have a bunch of those too.

What a treat for sore fingers BB! Welcome! You are obviously way beyond my position in guitars and performance including recording. It is just a hobby for me if playing guitar can be "JUST" anything!

I've heard of Larrivee though I've never played one. I've played Martins, Gallaghers, Taylors, Guild, Gibson, most all of them. I guess that the ones I like best have been the Gallaghers or Martins. The Seagull I ended up with was a compromise. I needed something that I could use and while I had Gallagher tastes, I had a Silvertone budget. The guy I bought the Seagull from had a Taylor he wanted to sell me for $1200 and it was worth every penny. He'd gotten drunk and stepped on the neck and broken it, sent it to the Taylor folks who completely rebuilt it and it was perfect. He'd bought a Gallagher. He said that the Taylor was flawless, but he'd always know that it had been broken and would never be satisfied with it. I really didn't like the high tone of the instrument that well and when I balked at buying the Taylor, he drug out the Seagull. Perfect match for me.

The Seagull's are canadian made and a great guitar value! score!

I love Gallaghers and have been to Wartrace, Tn where the boys knock them together!

Doc Watson kinda put them on the map and I've always jonesed for one... someday I'll have the winning lotto ticket!

I still play in bands and record and everything... it is 'my golf' I suppose... and still lots of fun.

Well, I'm satisfied with the Seagull. It's a good middle of the road guitar. But I dink around mostly with a couple of electric gits with very light strings and picking up that Seagull that is strung with heavy strings for the tone is murder on the fingers and hands <LOL>.

I did find a good buy on an amp a while back. I caught one of the "new old stock" VOX AD30VT modeling amps. Perfect for me because of that variable power control knob....just wish it was located on top of the amp instead of on the back of it. I crank the two volume controls to the max to get the good valve sound and control the final sound with the gain and that power control. With that, I can play it as loud or soft as I need to to keep from getting murdered by my wife.

Wow! TDN is playing in Arizona in Nov and that town is only 3 hours from Las Vegas! If we hadn't just made a Vegas sojourn, that date would be a sore temptation!

I absolutely love Three Dog Night. Danny Hutton was at one point best friends with Brian Wilson. Don't know if Brian and Danny are still friends though.
How can love survive in such a graceless age?
