I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but I like him, and in fact prior to falling in love with Tim's voice, Barry was my favourite singer. (Though I didn't like the stuff he did after 'Here at the Mayflower'; which, incidentally, was a brilliant concept album.)
Quite by chance I found this, which has always been one of my favourite Manilow songs.

And IMO anyone who says that Barry is just plain boring hasn't listened to the lyrics of some of his songs. (And I can quote lots of examples. 'Overhauled and guaranteed' for starters!)

And as for 'I was good then but now I'm even better'

    4. Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin
    5. Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan
    6. Hotel California - Eagles
    7. Blood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan
    8. Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits
    9. Band On The Run - Wings
    10. A Night At The Opera - Queen

I don't know whether to write explanations for these or not. I had to be ruthless with Hotel California & there seemed no point in trying to push Making Movies down any longer. It would probably have been easier to do a Top 20 but I will leave that for the moment.

Sticky Fingers is JUST below Opera. The fact is I get more pleasure out of Opera, all of it,while SF has a couple of songs that aren't so great (Moonlight Mile, Can't You Hear Me Knocking). SF is still my favourite Stones album however.

    Oh what the heck:

    11. Sticky Fingers - Rolling Stones
    12. Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin
    13. Main Course - Bee Gees
    14. Beggars Banquet - Rolling Stones
    15. Long Road Out Of Eden - Eagles
    16. Strange Weather - Glenn Frey
    17. Abbey Road - Beatles
    18. Rubber Soul - Beatles
    19. The White Album - Beatles
    20. Sailing To Philadelphia - Mark Knopfler

I didn't like lumping three Beatles albums together like that but I rank those three pretty much equally. I have to give an honourable mention to Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps.
Very nice! Led Zep IV is definitely my favorite of theirs and IMO best of their albums. I liked II a lot, I somewhat, I didn't care for III that much though anything after IV and I kind of lost interest somewhat, my favs are IV and II. And you already know how I feel about Hotel California.

Perhaps you should give Physical Graffiti a listen, because in my opinion that is not only their second best album, but as you can see it is in my Top 20.

While digging out Christmas stuff, I had to move some of the big cases that hold my albums plus a friend left his collection to me as well. Tons of memories are in those vinyls. This is a few I saw that I loved then and still do now:
    ACDC - Dirty Deeds
Janis Joplin- Big Bro & The Holding Co
Pink Floyd - Wish you were here (my nickname's been Diamond Deb since college freshman year)
    Bob Seger - Live Bullet
    Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Beatles - Meet the Beatles (always wondered if it's the one worth big $$)
Jimi Hendrix - Are you experienced
    John Mellencamp - Lonesome Jubilee
Chicago - CTA (I played sax and my 2 bffs played trombone and trumpet, we were gonna be like Chicago!)
Blood Sweat & Tears - BS&T more horns!
    Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Chuck Mangione - A Night of Magic
Led Zep - Led Zep IV
    ZZ Top - Tres Hombres
Stones - Get yer ya yas out
    Weather Report - Heavy Weather
Neil Young - After the gold rush
Bob Dylan & The Band - Basement Tapes
    Allman Bros - Fillmore East
Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show - Sloppy Seconds

Hi--while on the topic--I was going to agree with Freypower that WalshFan88 might really like the double album Physical Graffiti--but I also wanted to add that the single album that followed Physical Graffiti--Presence--is even more immediately accessible for many Led Zeppelin fans.

Presence is actually my least favourite Zep album, although it is probably underrated; it's hard to argue with a track list that includes All My Love & Achilles Last Stand. I also like Tea For One a lot.

    That's candid.

I find Presence to be a hit song after hit song album--one song to another, once you know the songs;--and that is after Physical Graffiti almost becomes that type of collection itself,--but, not everyone hears the same melodic lines the same way!

I think of Physical Graffiti as two albums; and I'd add Presence as the third album in a triple album collection of Led Zeppelin songs. The material on the two releases seems that closely related.
(In other words, listen to Physical Graffiti, listen to Presence; listen to Presence, listen to Physical Graffiti).

The themes in the lyrics of two albums are an intriguing set of stories to be drawn into and follow through both collections; the words and the music to the related sets of songs are like a saga.

WOW---I debated on this for a day or 2 and don't even know if I can give you a top 10 or 20 favorite albums. It's not that I don't have favorites it's just narrowing it down to favorites of certain bands. Like I've said tho, there is only 1 band that I will listen to the WHOLE discography of and NEVER skip a song. I can't even say that about the Eagles, only Zeppelin. I have a very hard time ever arguing one Zep album over another because I simply worship them all, tho I guess if I HAD to pick one favorite it would be Zep IV. Masterpiece.

This list will be in no particular order for the most part because I think it probably changes periodically. These are albums I cannot live without---PERIOD!

    The Long Run-Eagles
    Heartbeat City-The Cars
    Zeppelin IV-Led Zeppelin
    Appetite For Destruction-Guns N Roses
    Hair Of The Dog-Nazareth
Dark Side Of The Moon-Pink Floyd
    Sticky Fingers-Rolling Stones
    Fair Warning-Van Halen
    Desolation Boulevard-Sweet
    Scarecrow-John Mellencamp
    Night Moves-Bob Segar
    Rumours-Fleetwood Mac
    Dreamboat Annie-Heart
    Lie To Me-Jonny Lang
    Infinity-Journey
    A Night At The Opera-Queen

I included only 1 album from each band. But there's a lot of bands I just couldn't live without of more than 1 of their albums. KWIM? So let's try this..... You're stranded on a desert island and you can take complete discographies. In other words, 10 bands you can't live without.
    Led Zeppelin
    Eagles
    The Cars
    Sweet
    Van Halen
    Journey
    Heart
    Pink Floyd
    Rolling Stones
    John Mellencamp

    Lynyrd Skynyrd
    AC/DC
    Aerosmith
    Fleetwood Mac
    Guns N' Rsses

Mine are quite similar...no particular order...

Eagles (which would include each guy's solo stuff)
    Led Zep
    Stones
    Pink Floyd
    SRV
    Beatles
    Neil Young
    Clapton
    Mellencamp
    Allman Bros

I'd try to sneak in Muddy Waters, U2, ZZ Top, Bob Seger and Skynyrd in my cleavage somehow....
