Mike-how about Ann & Nancy Wilson? In my opinion, 2 of the all time greatest female rockers ever! Love them.

That's who I meant by "Wilson Sisters"....'Heart". Love 'em! Still love 'em!

They are performing again. They were at AmeriStar a couple of years ago in Kansas City and I sort of wish that I'd been able to go. They only gigged for 45 minutes I guess and I think the tickets were $80. Probably something about the time limit that the Casino imposed to keep gamblers from being away from the tables and machines for any more than 45 minutes <LOL>

I'd dearly love to hear them do "Battle of Evermore" live! They really compliment each other with instrumental talent and vocal talent. Very special ladies indeed!

They are two female Rockers who can tear it up onstage and have always done it on talent and not on their sexuality! I respect that Very Highly.

A side note....one night that were staying at AmeriStar, ZZ-Top was performing. I didn't make the concert, but I was sitting at a Blackjack table that Billy Gibbons (Billy Gibbons with that unique "Pearly Gates" humbucker setup on his guitars) came and sat down at. Kinda funny. He was like me...betting the minimum <LOL>. Very quiet person. I didn't invade his space but as he left, I did express my admiration and wished him well. He just paused and nodded, shook my hand and said "Thanks".

Most of these guys are pretty down to earth. There are exceptions of course, but most of them leave their stage personalities on stage when on road trips these days and try to find something to do to occupy their time between gigs. Must be a pretty lonely existence.

Duh!! Mike--How did I miss that--I really didn't even see that in your post--Really I am not an idiot-I just sound that way sometimes!

My husband and I saw them live in the 80's --they were fantastic!!! I love them! I would pay big money to see them again. I bet I wouldn't have to talk my hubby into putting out $$ for that one either!

Regarding the Wilson sisters - my husband loves them, especially Nancy. We have several DVDs of them. The one in Seattle where they do The Battle of Evermore and Black Dog (also Elton's Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters) is very good but I do think Ann can be overly histrionic at times.

The only female artists I've seen (I won't mention Australians) are Melissa Ethridge supporting the Eagles in 1995 (a strange choice, I felt, and I'm not a fan), Joan Armatrading,Tina Turner and Diana Ross at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, in 1986.

I have albums by Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt and Carole King, while my husband was a fan of the late Kirsty MacColl. I also have the Ella & Louis albums plus an Ella Fitzgerald blues album and various compilations with Aretha Franklin songs. I have the album Emmylou Harris did with Mark Knopfler and of course you can hear her throughout Gram Parsons' Grievous Angel.

I forgot Kate Bush. She's unique (and I have to say hubby agrees with that too...)

Those women could sing, unlike the so-called 'divas' of today who stretch one syllable to make it sound like 15 and screech at the top of their voices (Whitney, Celine, Mariah). Apologies to anyone who likes those three, but they make me want to flee any venue which inflicts them on my ears. (I always wanted to use that smiley and here's my chance)!

I'm quoting myself here to bump this thread.

Dilana just pulled off a miracle! If you can get to her MySpace pages, take a look at her Blog entries.

She was set up to do a tour in the UK and Canada. After she and the band got over there in the UK, someone really screwed up in her management team. The tour was cancelled leaving her stranded with $54,000 in debt to the crew who she'd hired to make the tour happen!

She called on her Fans to help her and the band. They came through! Someone (name not mentioned) provided tickets for a flight from the UK to Canada. I guess that the dates in the UK had been missed by the time they got things rolling again.

Once in Canada, money poured in to finance the tour FROM THE FANS! The toured part of the way from the East Coast of Canada to the West Coast with their supporting act...a punk group that had a van. But parts of the trip were traveled with FANS who jumpped in and provided transportation and lodging and food for she and Erik her sideman!

Read the Blogs. It's pretty amazing.

The thing is, this lady should be a STAR! She said it in one of her blog entries: "I'm going to sing my heart out to you. I hope to give you all goosebumps and hard nipples!"

I didn't say that! Dilana said it. And she can do it too!

    Default Dilana

I posted a few pictures of Dilana Smith on my Profile here in a separate album.

I hope you guys will forgive me for my rant about her.

Here's an interview with Dilana at "The Buzz" Radio Station in Houston (94.5 FM) that she did Dec 3, 2008. The song she sang with just acoustic guitar accompaniment was really good ("I'm Not Falling In Love, I'm Falling Apart") was great. And the interview explains a little bit as to why her tour in the UK and Canada almost met wit disaster.

    http://www.thebuzz.com/cc-common/pod...st=rodryan.xml

I was watching a couple of videos of her playing a place called Crazy Frog in Houston a couple of nights ago. I feel for her. She's paying some HEAVY dues. The club was noisy with people not apparently paying a lot of attention to her and yet she was singing her heart out.

She's not a youngster to anyone but "me". She is a single mom but she does not let that tear her away from her lifestyle of motorcycling on a Harley (!!) and having the full support of biker types all over the South and Southwest.

She sang Dec 2 in a bar in Houston, then did a performance on Dec 3 (today) on a radio show that I hope to find a recording of, and then is gigging again tonight at another club in Houston. All of this after pretty much hitch-hiking coast to coast up in Canada because her management bailed on her. Her tour in Canada was successfully funded by die-hard fans who donated time and money and in some cases, materials in addition to food and lodging where she needed it.

She just HAS to make it.

I looked for a thread for Bob Dylan, but didn't see one so....

Fp, I know you're a fan, I think, and noticed he was going to be in Australia in April and figured you already knew, but just in case, check out his website.

I just love the song Forever Young, but not really the way Bob sings it. It caught my attention last summer during baseball season. Will.I.Am sang a part of it during Major League Baseball's advertising campaigns. I never could find his version on itunes, so I downloaded Bob's.

I will be at the Entertainment Centre show at the end of April, not Bluesfest at Byron Bay.

I like Forever Young, but it isn't really a great favourite. I could write about Bob Dylan forever, but as with Dire Straits if there isn't really anyone else who shares the interest it seems best to leave it.
