    Default RIP Danny Kirwan

I know this happened a few days ago, but I was on a trip and didn't get a chance to post about the death of one of Fleetwood Mac's first guitarists.

He's the one who plays those famous solos in "Oh Well," not Peter Green. So few people know his name, but he was important in the band's early days.

    Mick Fleetwood states:
"Today was greeted by the sad news of the passing of Danny Kirwan in London, England. Danny was a huge force in our early years. His love for the Blues led him to being asked to join Fleetwood Mac in 1968, where he made his musical home for many years.

Danny’s true legacy, in my mind, will forever live on in the music he wrote and played so beautifully as a part of the foundation of Fleetwood Mac, that has now endured for over fifty years.
Thank you, Danny Kirwan. You will forever be missed!

He had a very troubled life, suffering from alcoholism and mental illness. I hope he is at peace now.

Very sad. May he rest in peace.

Regarding the cause of death: an Englishman who is part of the music scene in London returned after several years' absence to post on the Fleetwood Mac fan board that Danny, who had been living in hostels in the Soho district, died in his sleep from pneumonia.

ETA: The cause of death has been confirmed by his ex-wife.

Danny's obituary from the Times (UK):

I hadn't realized they couldn't locate him to tell him about his induction into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. I always thought he just chose not to attend. But he's had no real "address" for a long time.
