Don't know who said it here, but The Boys Of Summer thing reminding of baseball, I don't get that at all. I know that's what they call baseball players (I'm an avid baseball fan) but the words are so different from that. Isn't it funny how songs can mean such different things to different people.

Not that I think I need to make a case for HOTM, I feel obligated to. This song has the same affect on me that Secular Praise does. It can reduce me to tears almost every time and there's been times I've had to shut it off because it tears me up. Not only is it beautifully sung but the words are so meaningful to me, always have been and even more so the last few years. The Christchurch version is just amazing, the way Don's voice cracks in it, it just kills me every time!!!

Every lyric means something to me but these are the lyrics that kill me every time I hear them and reduce me to a pile of goo.....

The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning again

I've been trying to get down to the heart of the matter
    But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter

But I think it's about forgiveness, forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore
    These times are so uncertain
    There's a yearning undefined
    And people filled with rage
We all need a little tenderness
    How can love survive
    In such a graceless age

    The trust and self-assurance
    That lead to happiness
They're the very things we kill, I guess

How can anyone hear these lyrics and not have it just tug at you. And then add to that the way Don sings it. Oh my!!!

I vote for ZThe Heart Of The Matter for the win.

Several years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Don at a M & G and I told him that The Heart of the Matter was my favorite song of his. He said a lot of people told him that. Well, it is still my very favorite song of his today. He sings it so beautifully and heartfelt. It tears me up when his voice cracks. The lyrics are brilliant. No doubt about it, I want HOTM to win.

I vote for The Heart of the Matter.

    It's magnificent!

As with several others, I strongly felt that The End of the Innocence and Heart of the Matter should have been the last 2 finalists. But, now with Boys of Summer beating out TEOTI for that spot, it makes the final decision much easier. Although I probably would have voted for Heart of the Matter to win, regardless, a strong case could also be made for TEOTI (It is just such an iconic, classic track, further boosted by Bruce Hornsby's elegant piano). But HOTM is such a deep, rich, profound, and emotionally satisfying song, that, it certainly is one of, if not the best, song of Don's career. So, at this stage of the contest, the choice is very clear.

Without any doubt, I vote for Heart of the Matter for the win.

Both are awesome songs, but for me, one has the edge. The Boys Of Summer for the win.

I'm bummed I won't be around when this contest ends, but it's looking good for my favorite. Here's hoping!

Inspired by Willie, here are my favorite lines:

There are people in your life
    Who've come and gone
    They've let you down
You know, they hurt your pride
You better put it all behind you
    'Cause life goes on
    You keep carrying that anger
    It'll eat you up inside.

    And of course the refrain...
    I think it's about forgiveness.

    AMEN, Don Henley. AMEN.

Always in our hearts, Never forgotten

I love those lines Soda, and they are always so true to life.

But for me the quintessential sound of Don Henley was always and still is 'Boys Of Summer'. It was one of my favourite songs of the 80s and would still be high in my top 10 list!

So for that reason I vote
    'BOYS OF SUMMER'
    for the win!!

I'm totally with you on this, GA. Although we are in the minority here, I think The Boys of Summer is the definitive moment in Don's solo career. I love the emotional The Heart of the Matter, but for me, The Boys of Summer is one of the best rock and roll songs ever. So even though it's not going to make much difference in the outcome of the game ...

I cast my vote for The Boys of Summer.
