Re: Bracing for Hurricane Irma
Thank you for the well wishes and prayers. I've evacuated to the Panhandle. But today businesses here are boarding up and closing early. The storm is so huge and unpredictable that there's no escaping it really.
I haven't been able to open my personal messages here - darn this crappy cell phone - so I apologize to those who PM'd me and didn't get a response. I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Re: Bracing for Hurricane Irma
So glad that you checked in with us, NMB. This is such a monster storm and I hope and pray all the Borderers living in the area stay safe. Take care, Floridians!
Re: Bracing for Hurricane Irma
NMB - TY for checking in. Stay safe everyone. Now it is supposed to hit near Naples. And Jose is just behind it !
Re: Bracing for Hurricane Irma
Glad you're safe, NMB! Not sure exactly where on the Panhandle you are, but if you want to get on into Alabama, some decent-sized places are Dothan, Enterprise, Andalusia, and Troy. If they're on your side of the Panhandle, you should be able to find a spot somewhere in one of those places. If you have to go as far north as Troy, I have a good friend and his wife who live there. He's a professor at Troy State. Let me know, and I suspect he can help you out. Prayers for all of you!
Re: Bracing for Hurricane Irma
Praying for all of you and glad you're safe too NMB.
Re: Bracing for Hurricane Irma
Very concerned for the safety of everyone in the storm's path.
Take good care. Hoping for the best for you.
Thanks for checking in, NMB.

Yep, my friend in Naples thinking she was not going to need to evacuate (of course I disagreed told her better to be safe than sorry and leave anyway) has indeed now left. MY other friends in the Gulf panhandle are Air Force and safely secured. Every region of the USA has it's issues but this is truly a nightmare. I am worried about everyone who can be and already is impacted by Irma and now as you say Jose. Power failures aside the potential damage to infrastructure all over the state and elsewhere is a huge concern.
Re: Bracing for Hurricane Irma
The storm surge in Naples is very dangerous. I hope your friend got to a safe place.
Re: Bracing for Hurricane Irma
Pippin, I'm near Destin which is about halfway between Apalachicola (the part that juts out southwest of Tallahassee) and the Alabama border. I'm staying here until Tuesday morning then going to head for home, the good Lord willin'.
Re: Bracing for Hurricane Irma
So glad you're safe, NMB! Travel safely home!
