Congratulations Jackson! :D
About time too!
Here's some pics in his honor:

I really like him! :smitten: But so many of his songs make me cry!
Congratulations to Jackson. On the radio last night they played Lyin' Eyes followed by Running On Empty, and I was made up!
Jackson was one of husband's albums that we used to listen to. Only a few days ago, he admitted that he preferred Jackson to the Eagles. I just bit my tongue. (After all, he does put up with my obsession!)
This is long overdue. I think Jackson is great, but with all due respect to hubby, GEF, there is a reason Henley and Frey were voted in first.
I completely agree with this sentiment. It's amazing how his songs have the ability to touch you personally. In a lot of his songs, he expresses exactly what I had been thinking, but previously never had the words for.Quote:

That's so great. He's very talented. Congratulations Jackson! :D
I agree with the sentiment that this is long over-due. Jackson is an amazing song writer. Great pics Brooke. He still looks so great. It's just not fair! Why do these men get better looking with age while I just get older?
According to Amazon, Jackson Browne Solo Acoustic, Vol. 2
Original Release Date February 19, 2008, That's cool, I am a huge Fan 8)

Cool, tlr! Thanks for the heads up!
I have many of his cd's (also the old vinyls) and Solo Acoustic Vol.1. I like it a lot, but really don't want to hear the intros every time I play it. I made a compilation with out those, which I love! :D
Another very gifted musician.
That does sound good. I must admit I am not a huge JB fan but this does sound enticing.
Thanks for the heads up TLR. I'll have to look for it. Funnily enough, I was just thinking recently that I should pick up vol. 1 as I had never gotten around to purchasing it, but want it. I love Jackson's use of piano. I still remember the first time I heard Load Out/Stay back in the 70's. When he delivers the line "just make sure you've got it all set to go before you come for my piano" and then he just goes off on the keyboard...it blew me away back when I was knee-high-to-a-grasshopper. I'm still a sucker for piano.
Jackson Browne is coming here in October to perform at the Alabama Theater, a beautiful and historic movie theater and stage in downtown Birmingham, and I just got tickets. Have any of you seen him in concert?
Yes once in Austin, Texas. It was maybe 1981/82. I was not that big a fan of his at the time (hubby was) so I thought it was a good show but not great. However, that was a long time ago and he's grown on me somewhat since then so I would appreciate him more now. Have fun.
Thanks. I like a number of his songs, and of course he has a deep Eagles connection, so it should be a good show.
Great, DF! I haven't seen Jackson in concert, but would love to. What a wonderful talent he is. We have 5 or 6 of his early albums. He is coming to St. Louis in October and I want to go sooooo bad, but I've already heard hubby say he would not want to go see him because so many of his songs are sad and depressing and I just don't know if I could take it in concert. I'd probably be crying during the whole show. I haven't ruled it out though. I have to get through the Eagles show on Sept. 20th first.
I think Toon and Witchy Mummy have both seen him.
Funny, I heard on the radio today that he has changed very little from what he looked like in the seventies and that he looks nowhere near a man in his early sixties.
Now who else does that remind me of.......?;-)
I saw Jackson Browne back in the late 80s or early 90s. I had a front row seat. It was a good show, but unfortunately I have always found him a bit too earnest. I listen dutifully to the songs that I have (I only own Late For The Sky, The Pretender and Running On Empty) but the title track of The Pretender is the only song of his that really means much to me. As an Eagles fan I should be a huge fan of him, but there are other people the Eagles worked with in the 70s who in my opinion are much more interesting artists, i.e. Randy Newman and the late Warren Zevon.
But regarding his appearance, check out the cover of his new album Time The Conqueror:

I know, Fp! I saw that when I got the email about his tour!
I've always thought him very cute. Not sure about all that facial hair though!
I have to be in the right mood to listen to his music. Not all of it is down, but a lot of it is. Either way, I'm a huge fan.
Do any of you watch the show 'Living with Ed' on the Planet Green Channel. Jackson Browne was on that. Apparently he is very 'green' and is living 'off the grid' at his home. Ed (Ed Begley Jr.) was very impressed - lol. If you haven't seen 'Living with Ed' it's worth a look. He is very 'green' and he is always trying to come up with new green ideas which his long suffering wife has to put up with. It's very amusing and also has some good ideas.
Jackson Browne is one of hubby's favourites and always a good 'neutral' album to listen to in the car. He has The Very Best Of compilation and Running On Empty, which was the first time I'd heard of Jackson, when I met my husband to be and looked through his tape collection. I used to listen to that, and Darkness On The Edge Of Town by Springsteen, and Joe's But Seriously Folks, when he was away for months in the Navy. I prefer Jackson's more upbeat numbers like Doctor My Eyes and Running On Empty. I like his Take It Easy, but naturally prefer the version by that other guy.:)
If he comes to the UK, I'll definitely get tickets.
Not so sure about that facial hair though! ( Brooke, I've just realised that I've almost quoted you word for word!)
tbsf, it's good to hear that Jackson is promoting a green lifestyle.
Yeah, both WM and I saw him in 2006 with David Lindley at the Theatre Royal. It was a fantastic show, even though WM and I both made Jackson cringe when he left it to the audience to sing the last bit of Stay. We must have been the only ones singing, but we didn't care!!!
DF--you'll have a great time and I am jealous, because he is coming here (GEF-check http://www.jacksonbrowne.com/tour/ and scroll to the bottom) and I just can't afford it. I'm really looking forward to the the new album though.
Thanks for the link, Toon, (and nice to hear from you again). Sorry you won't be able to go. Perhaps something will come up. I see there is a date in Birmingham on my birthday! Bristol would be nearer though. When my other half gets back, I'll see if he wants to go, and if not I have a friend at work who said she'd love to see him.
I hope you get to go GEF-Jackson's concerts are good fun. I had a look on ebay-and someone is selling front row seats at £177 each for London!!!!! Outrageous.
I've had "Running on Empty" in my head ever since I woke up late this morning...
Runnin' into the sun, but I'm runnin' behind!
I think I have to find some albums of Jackson.. Any suggestions? :)
The Best of Jackson Browne is great. It has all his most popular songs and would be a great introduction.
If you want to dig deep, I would start with the beginning-Saturate Before Using. It has Doctor My Eyes, Jamaica Say You Will, and Rock Me On The Water, some of my faves.
I love Jackson Browne's version of Opening Farewell too. I've only heard it done by Bonnie Raitt but I found it on Saturate Before Using and I was suprised. That song always makes me cry.
I don't know that one, but I'll have to look out for it. I had 'Lives In The Balance' on the Miami Vice soundtrack cd before I bought The Best Of. Running On Empty was the first Jackson Browne album we had, and stands the test of time.
I have The Very Best of Jackson Browne 2-disk cd, and Running on Empty. Those are all I need to get my Jackson Browne fix.
I was just over at JB's website and he is going to be on the Tonight Show tonight!
Thanks for the heads-up, Brooke! I'll be sure to watch.
We will be seeing him live, two weeks from tonight.

I'm not going to see Jackson because I'd hoped to see Neil Young, and I missed out on that.:headshake:
The Lindemans Winery show in the Hunter Valley would be fun. I've always wanted to go to something like that but it's a day trip from Sydney. That is interesting that he is doing Cairns and Townsville. These are places that are too small for the Eagles.
And Gateshead, back in hubby's old hometown, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Why can't I imagine a hall full of Geordies and Jackson Browne?:eyebrow:
I have a good friend who lives relatively close to Adelaide. I'd be sort of surprised if she didn't make it if she could work it into her schedule.
Sad that he don't come to the Netherlands, maybe I wanted to see him than :) If everything works.
Ooh, exciting! Bristol or London look like good bets for me.
