I wonder if the tape is speeded up a little. A musician on YouTube commented that she did that sometimes (on her own work) to check if anything was sharp or flat.
Wow!!! :D That is so awesome. Really cool hearing their voices acapella and the little differences from the final recording. I get why it was sped up so it stays on the site, but you can still tell it's them.
This is just one track of a recording that turned up a few years ago and I think was discussed here (possibly August/September 2013). Someone had come across a tape with studio recordings of Take It Easy and Hotel California, with different parts on different tracks. This track is Randy's backing vocal but as it was recorded in the same room at the same time as Glenn's lead vocal, you can hear Glenn in the background.
I don't think it's sped up.

ETA: It was discussed a bit here but the downloads are no longer available.
It is sped up. It's a semitone higher than it should be. (in A flat instead of G)
Yes, I was wrong. From first to last vocal, the one on youtube is 2:56 whereas the one I have is 3:16. Is that consistent with the pitch change?
So the theory is that this tape was found among those discarded when Olympic Studios went under? I wonder if the OTB sessions with Glyn Johns were found, particularly Randy's "Wait and See" and Bernie's "Georgia Peach." Let us pray.
More than likely the uploader sped it up so it stays on YT. A lot do that to avoid the copyright so it stays on the site.
I didn't count the silent parts at the start an end. I looked up how speed should affect pitch and I think speeding up by that amount would shift from G to A ie a full tone. Does that seem plausible?
The calculation I did was to take the Hz equivalent for G and multiple by 3:16/2:56 which gave me a Hz value approximating to A.
Very interesting. A full tone is quite a lot, bu then again twenty seconds is quite a lot! I checked the version on YouTube with a guitar that had been recently tuned. It was on A flat according to that. I think Buffyfan145 is right about the reason behind speeding it up.
I don't know anything about this technical stuff. I just loved hearing their voices so raw!
The "technical stuff" in this case means that if a song is sped up, the voices can sound like Mickey Mouse. :-) Exaggerating of course, but often the singer doesn't sound like him/herself when a song is sped up. In this case though, I think they can easily be recognized.
Yes the demo sounds sped up as I've never heard glenn sound like that. It seems the demo has a more 60s, rootsy flavour as opposed to the smooth 70s sound of the final released version the biggest difference is when Glenn sings 'make' it easy at one point probably a slip that I noticed because I know that song so well. The harmonies and backing vocals are practically the exact arrangements.
It would be nice to know the date as this must have been before the recording sessions for the album but after they decided to ditch the heavy Rn B style version they played in Aspen
Yes thank you for posting this, it is absolutely beautiful!
Now the multi-tracks are available - somehow, someway. I wonder if that's Glenn on acoustic guitar? He's so steady. Wish I could play like that.

Loving the bass - that starts about 15 minutes in.
Have you listened to this one? Is it real?

Pretty cool.
Amazing. Again, it's speeded up a little but still ... :thud:
Maybe the rarities are finally coming out of the vault. Let us pray. I want to hear the studio version of Randy's epic "Wait and See/I'm a Sinner."
Here is the Meistro's isolated bass from "One of These Nights":

Thanks UTW for that!!! :D I like the different sound to it and I agree with one of the YT commenters it sounds more 60s sounding without the banjo.
HA that was a great one blue. Maybe the thread should be changed to isolated tracks?
