This one really hit close to home, because my friend was only 5 years older than me. I took a long walk yesterday to mourn, listening to my iPod, and when Billy Joel's beautiful song "And So It Goes" came on, I really lost it. They played this song at my daughter's graduation choral concert in tribute to several teens who died that year in a car crash, and I have always associated it with mourning. It is poignant and sad.
"In every heart there is a room, a sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds of lovers past until a new one comes along...
And every time I've held a rose it seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes and so it goes, and so will you too, I suppose.
So I would chose to be with you, that's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too and you can have this heart to break.
And so it goes, and so it goes, and you're the only one who knows."
I too offer you my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your friend. It's good you spoke to her over the holidays, and thought she sounded well...hopefully that meant she did not suffer too much at the end. I agree that this song is an emotional one; but it is beautiful, too, and will remind you of how much your friend meant to you.
Re: Patrick Swayze Diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer
I'm truely sorry for the loss of your friend, Dana. My heart goes out to the family during this time. Cancer has struck a few of my family members over the last few years. I lost my grandmother to colon cancer in May of 2006, an aunt to breast cancer in Feb. 2006, and i mentioned in another thread about my cousin's grandmother who passed away a few weeks ago with stomach cancer. It's so crazy how a person can be so healthy and fine for so long and then to all of a sudden get the news about that dreaded word. It's scary.
I saw on the news today that Patrick Swayze was admitted to the hospital the other day for pneumonia. I think they said that it was caused from the treatment for his cancer. I wish him all the best in his recovery.
Re: Patrick Swayze Diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer
Thanks again, everyone.
I am like you, Peek--cancer has taken so many loved ones. I lost my grandfather to colon cancer, my father to melanoma, one aunt to breast cancer and another aunt to ovarian cancer.
I also heard about Patrick's hospitalization this weekend. I hope he gets better soon.
Re: Patrick Swayze Diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer
Well I read today that Patrick has been released from hospital, so hopefully that is a good omen.
Re: Patrick Swayze Diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer
I read that too, GA. Here's wishing him the best.
