A serious colon ailment has sidelined the Eagles' Glenn Frey, forcing the group to cancel tour dates in Charlotte , N.C. , and Knoxville , Tenn. But the rest of the Eagles hope Frey will be back on his feet in time for a Sept. 13 gig in Washington , D.C. And after the Eagles started this reunion tour, rumors immediately surfaced that the rockers would make a new album. Now it's happening. Don Felder, Joe Walsh, Don Henley, Timothy Schmit and Frey spent two weeks recording in New York and hope to have the disc in stores this fall.

The Eagles have postponed several concerts due to a recurrence of Glenn Frey's chronic gastrointestinal disorder. Four shows have been postponed since Saturday, as will be dates in Cincinnati Friday and Saturday and Memphis Sunday.

The Eagles' first concert tour in 14 years has been put on hold for the rest of the year because band member Glenn Frey needs surgery, it was announced Monday. "The Eagles are planning to reschedule the concerts for early 1995. The group regrets any
inconvenience the postponements have caused their fans,'' a band statement read. The band had performed earlier this year in Houston. Frey has suffered for several years from diverticulitis, an inflammation of the colon, and likely will undergo surgery within 48 hours in Los Angeles, a source said. Frey fell ill after a Sept. 16 concert in Philadelphia. Besides Frey, the reunion tour featured Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy Schmit and Don Felder.

THE EAGLES' Australian concerts have been postponed following singer-guitarist Glenn Frey's abdominal surgery to repair a gastrointestinal disorder.

"He's doing fine. He's continuing to make a very smooth recovery," said Ron Wise, spokesman for Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre.

Frey, 45, will be released this week. The re-formed 1970s supergroup postponed 17 remaining dates on its Hell Freezes Over tour in the United States and Canada, as well as concerts in Australia and Japan.

The Frontier Touring Company is rescheduling the Australian concerts for early next year and advises patrons to hold on to their tickets until new dates are announced.

Guitarist Glenn Frey of the Eagles was released Wednesday from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, seven days after abdominal surgery. Frey, 45, underwent surgery Oct. 6 to relieve pain from diverticulitis, a painful inflammation of the colon. The surgery forced postponement of the Eagles' concert tour.

These desperados, they've come to their senses. They've been out mending fences, giving concerts, pleasing their fans. And now the Eagles will land in Minneapolis . The band called off its two concerts scheduled for October 1994 at Target Center when singer-songwriter Glenn Frey had surgery to correct a problem with his intestines. After a three-month layoff, the Eagles returned to the road.
